Why? Because it seems that now I get to have my period more. As in all the time.
I scheduled another visit to the doctor for this Friday so I can go in there and say "WTF?" However, I don't really like my current gyno so I think I'll switch to a new one. This guy seems totally unconcerned with the fact that I am having my period like, two weeks after I had my last one. I'm not a doctor nor do I play one on the teevee, but that's not fucking normal and I would like it to stop, thankyouverymuch.
I'll report back on whether my doctor is able to figure out what the hell is wrong with me. Anyone else had this problem?
Sorry about the lull in posting - I had a huge party at my place on Saturday and I was a wee bit distracted by party preparation. In any case, now that my period is over with, we can get to talking about the good side effects of the pill - the sexual ones.
I don't know if it's because I've been spending a lot of time around really attractive people or if it's due to the pill, but I've definitely noticed an increased sex drive in the past 8 days. I've also noticed that when I get aroused from allegedly making out with someone over the weekend, I get way more aroused than I did when I allegedly made out with someone, say, a few weeks ago. I think this particular side effect will be an added bonus for whomever is lucky enough to start dating me next. I'll start accepting applications in the comments.
I haven't noticed too many changes, though I have noticed that my period seems to be behaving slightly differently. Usually I have two days of excruciating pain accompanied by extremely heavy flow, followed by three or so days of no pain and light flow, then nothing. This time around, I've had a fairly consistent flow and little to no pain. My period started on Sunday morning and I started taking the pill on Sunday night. Apparently it had a fairly immediate effect on the behavior of my menstrual cycle.
I like that, because when I'm not controlling my menstrual cycle with hormones, it is entirely unpredictable. It would never be exactly 28 days long - it would vary from 25-32 days and it was never the same month-to-month. The last time I was on the pill, my cycle was so regular that I would get my period every 28 days, on a Monday, between noon and 2 p.m. I look forward to that. I like my periods to be predictable.
I've also noticed a slight change in my moods - generally speaking, I get very sad and weepy the first few days of my period, but this time that hasn't occurred. Awesome.
I have recently decided to start taking birth control pills again. The purpose of this journal is to track my body's reactions to the pill and hopefully prompt discussion with other women who are taking or have taken the pill.
I first began taking birth control pills when I was a teenager. I didn't like them for whatever reason and switched to using condoms for birth control. Following the birth of my daughter almost 13 years ago, I began taking the pill again. I continued to use the pill for 8 years, with a one-year hiatus during which time I used Depo-Provera (which sucked royally). Four and a half years ago, I decided to stop and switched to exclusively using condoms again.
My decision to begin using the pill again is actually unrelated to birth control. I have endometriosis, which causes me a significant amount of pain during my menstrual cycle, to the point that I usually have to take enough Advil to kill a small elephant. Birth control pills apparently help to control many symptoms of endometriosis, so I decided to start taking them again and see if they help. I also intend to document my body's reactions to the pill, to see what kind of side effects I have and pay close attention to any changes in my skin, weight, and most importantly, endometriosis symptoms.
I started a new pack of Ortho Tri-Cyclen last night. The journey has begun.
